Time Keeps Marching On

This week it seems that I've done a lot of thinking...

About time that is and how quickly it keeps marching on.

You see, Tuesday was my birthday, yet again it seems. It didn't feel like very long ago I had a birthday and here I am with yet another one. 365 days pass before you know it!

What did I do in the last three-hundred and sixty-five days? I don't really know, it all seems a blur these days. Is it because I'm getting older?? The saying is "Time flies when you're having fun" Maybe that's it, I'm just having too much fun. ha! Not sure that that's it either. Something to ponder for sure.
All I know is, I have so much that I want to do but it seems as though so little time. Do you feel like that too??
I spent the better part of my birthday reminiscing about where has my life gone. Not in a bad way mind you. Just thinking about what I've done with my life. Where has it gone. Every little thought included my kiddos, that's where my life has gone. Being a Mama to them. It seems like they were all just born, not the 21, 19, 17 and almost 15 year olds that they are today. I bet that I said it at least two dozen times this week to each of my kids, to enjoy their life, make wise choices and don't try to rush things, because before they know it they'll be sitting at my age wondering what happened to their life and how on earth did it fly by so quickly.

Speaking of time, you want to know what I got for my Big day? A very appropriate gift for the way that I've felt this week. My hubby got a 1888 Elgin woman's pocket watch for me. It's beautiful, I love it! Such a great piece of history. I can only imagine the woman who happened to have owned it. I wonder if she felt her life flying by.
Here's some quick pics I took of my new/very old watch
What do you think? Beautiful,right?

Here's another very, very special gift that my sweet girl, Molly gave me. She hand painted me my very own Birthday card sign. Molly told me that there just wasn't a card that said what she felt, so she painted me one herself. Is she not the sweetest girl ever??

When I read it for the first and second and third time, (with tears in my eyes) it sure makes me realize where my life has gone.... My kiddos, they own my heart and I'm so very proud that I am their Mama.

Well, I'm another year older and hopefully wiser. Though here's hoping that the next 365 days Do Not pass by as quickly as the last!

Old World Frame Love

I thought I'd show you a few items that I've been working on and completed in the last couple of days.
Over the last year or so, I've come to love giving an Old World treatment to so many things. I've given it to concrete statues, iron shelving, clay pottery and mirror frames.

It gives such a romantic, old fashion look to just about any item you put it on.
This was one of my favorite projects in the last several days.
When you add an old world treatment to a vintage inspired frame and add a chalkboard, it just makes me want to swoon. I love how this framed chalkboard turned out. Isn't she pretty?
It can be hung horizontal.

Or vertical

Why is it when you take photos of an item in horizontal and then one in vertical it just doesn't look like the same item?? Drives me bonkers! But I can assure you it is the same chalkboard. I really love how this turned out. It was hard for me to list it in our Etsy Shop but I know that I can make another one for our home too.

Here's another frame that I completed. Went with a Rustic Red and then a glazing technique for this one. See how it really brings the crevices out and lets a peek of the gold shine thru.
 Here's the vertical
and horizontal thing going on again.
Well, that's what I've been up to pretty much the last week or so. I've got more than these two framed chalkboards painted. Listing some in our Etsy shop and taking some to our Antique Booth.

Speaking of the Antique Booth, today is my day to work there. Still feeling under the weather but I signed up several weeks ago, so I must go and get ready.

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Old wood for new projects

Good Monday morning,

I've been ill the last couple of days, caught some kind of bug. It came on suddenly and I sure wish that it would leave suddenly too. Feeling a little better today but oh the cough that I've had sure makes me feel like a horse has just trampled all over my ribs and back. Let's not even talk about my throat.

Enough whining for now.

Here's what I really want to tell you about. Last week we made a day trip out of town to go see about purchasing some old wood. When I say old, I'm talking about right at 100 years old. We met a man that was tearing down his old home place, the home that he was born in. This man is now 80 years old. Talk about the history in this place, the history in each and every board.
The man was still in the process of tearing down the old home place. I didn't take a lot of photos but here is the huge stacks of reclaimed wood that we purchased. We stacked our trailer with as much that we could possibly haul. Can you believe that I even got a few pieces that still had bits and pieces of old wallpaper still attached. This is a DIY'er dream. I can see all kinds of projects using these reclaimed boards, can't you? What's the first thing you would build?

We also got to peek inside the old milk house/barn. Oh, can you just imagine the tells that went on in here. The man was telling us stories from his childhood. It was so nice to listen to him reminiscing about days gone by.
The old milk house/barn will also be torn down. We may go back to see if we want any of the wood from this also. Not sure yet since I have plenty to do projects with at the moment. Now all I need to do is to get busy.
I hope you have a wonderful day. Wish me luck on getting better because I don't have time to be ill.

Dragonflies and Plate Flowers~Early summer projects

I know that I haven't posted much during the summer, though remember when I said I was busy. I really was!
While going through some of my photos the other day, I ran across several that I never shared on my blog.
As usual, I didn't take photos while creating this creature. Meet one of my Dragonflies. I made several of them, such a fun project!

He's adorned with a couple of antique items, the eyes are antique porcelain knobs and his tail has an insulator. It is marked 1893. I collect antique glass insulators, have about 200 of them now.Yes, My husband just looks at me every time I buy a new one! :0)

Also during the early spring and summer months, I made a TON of plate flowers. Now they are my kind of flower. No watering, weeding or wilting! Here's just a sampling of some that were made.
Plate flowers
I had them in our booths at the Antique shops that we're in. Although I packed up what was left last week hoping to bring them back out in early spring next year. A girl only needs so many plate flowers and I have about 50 of these ready, with hundreds of plates still to do more.
Glass plate flowers
Well, I have a lot to get done today. I hope you enjoyed seeing just a few of the projects that I did over the summer months. I might have pictures of more, I'll have to look.
