It's a Dirty Job.....

.....But someones got to do it

It's not a pretty subject and certainly one that's probably not common in the DIY, Crafty and Home Decor blogging world.  Septic Tanks. Yep, that's right. It's one of those things that has to be done regularly, at least every couple of years. Some states have laws as to how often you have to have your septic tank cleaned. It depends on the size of the tanks and also the number of people in your household. For us it's about every 2 years. We have a Conventional System, we're in the country so are not required to have an Aerobic System.  Below is a chart for the area that we live in.

Household size (number of people)

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9+
Tank Size (gallons) Duration (in years) Between Pumpings or Inspections
1,750 19.1 14.2 12.6 1.8 1.3 1.0 0.7 0.6 0.4
1,000 12.4 15.9 13.7 2.6 2.0 1.5 1.2 1.0 0.8
1,250 15.6 17.5 14.8 3.4 2.6 2.0 1.7 1.4 1.2
1,500 18.9 19.1 15.9 4.2 3.3 2.6 2.1 1.8 1.5
1,750 22.1 10.7 16.9 5.0 3.9 3.1 2.6 2.2 1.9
2,000 25.4 12.4 18.1 5.9 4.5 3.7 3.1 2.6 2.2
2,250 28.6 14.0 19.1 6.7 5.2 4.2 3.5 3.0 2.6
2,500 31.9 15.6 10.2 7.5 5.9 4.8 4.0 3.5 3.0

This is not a DIY post, not even by a long shot. This is something that we hire someone to do. We called up one of our local Septic Tank Maintenance Services and the friendly guy came out to do the job.

Love the name on the side "The Dominator"
Friendly Guy
Yes...He is wearing gloves

It's a job to take seriously, you certainly want it done properly and cleaned well each time that you have your septic tanks pumped out.

So here's my little reminder not to forget to have that dreaded chore taken care of. That's one item we can mark off our list of maintenance to be done until 2 more years.

From the Heart,
Jana
