Wonderful gift from a fellow blogger

I just had to show you what I received in the mail yesterday from a fellow blogger and friend.
Linda from White Weathered Hutch sent me this adorable stuffed stocking. Isn't it just the cutest and it smells wonderful too. I just love it!
My new cute stocking is already adoring our Christmas tree. Every time I walk by the tree, I can't help but think of sweet Linda for sending me such a wonderful gift. It really touches my heart and brings a smile to my face. Isn't it wonderful the things that can happen in the blogging world. You can make new friends from all over the world.

One side of the stocking
See the little jingle bell at the toe~So cute!
 Other side

I don't know if Linda knows just how much she has touched my heart by making me such a wonderful present, but she has. This is the first gift that I've ever received from a blogger friend and will forever be remembered. Blogging sure has its perks!

A little of this and that~My Exciting news

It's been a couple of weeks since my last post, my how time is flying by so quickly. I wanted to up-date on the exciting news that I mentioned in my last post. I didn't want to jinx anything by spreading my cheer to early. But, it's official, I'm now the proud owner of a space in one of our local Antique Malls. I'm soooo excited though nervous all at the same time.
There's always a waiting list to be a vendor at any of the places in or near our town, so I feel very fortunate that I will now have a space, a glorious 9 1/2 foot by 13 foot space! My husband and I will official start setting up later today.

This is a new direction in my life. Although, I did have a space years ago, 20 years ago to be exact, at an Antique and Crafts Mall. It was a fun and busy time in my life. That was back when I first started having my babies, I learned quickly that I just didn't have the time to commit to it anymore so it's been on the back burner for the last 20 years while raising my babies. They're not babies anymore! In fact today is my youngest son's birthday. He is now 14 yrs old. That is so hard for me to imagine, really it is. Seems like just yesterday he was just a little wee one.

Well, that's it for me right now. A little up-date on my life and the happening around our place. I hope that you'll be excited for me and with me on this new adventure. I'm sure it will be a roller coaster ride starting off.

P.s. I did get the old window frames finished that I mentioned in my last post, just haven't taken any photos yet. I'll do that hopefully today so that I can show them to you.

Back to sanding and painting I should go. I have a lot to get done today.

Thanks so much for taking the time to stop by!
I appreciate each and every visit !!

Close encounters with a strange looking egg!

I just had to show you all this egg that we gathered today from one of our chickens. Have you ever seen such a thing?? We've gathered hundreds, no make it thousands of eggs over the years but this is a first. I've never seen one that had this texture or waviness to it. I wonder what caused it, do you know?

This egg won't go into the pile that we eat but I am anxious to crack it open to see what it looks like on the inside.

I joked with my youngest son and told him that I knew which chicken had to have laid it. He asked how I would know such a thing when we have 36 chickens. It's easy, it's the one that doesn't have as many feathers as the rest of them, that she must have been cold when she laid it and was shivering. Ha, Ha!! We have had some fairly cold days lately. I don't know if he believed me or not but it sounded good to me. I did get a smile out of him though.

Really though, if anyone knows what would cause this, please let me know. I'm curious..Also this is not from a newly laying chicken either. She's been laying for two years now.

Old window frames~New opportunities

I've not had a lot of time to blog lately but that doesn't mean things are slow around our place. New opportunities are on the horizon but I don't want to jink anything by spilling the beans to early. Just know that I'm super excited and nervous at the same time. Isn't it amazing how one can be so excited but so nervous when new things head their way? I suppose it's the fear of the unknown.
I'll share more later when I'm for sure that this new opportunity is a reality.

For now here is a project that I'm working on. Remember my stash of window frames, well I've pulled a couple more out of the stack and have been working on them. Can you believe that the frame below had five, yes 5 layers of paint that must be about 50+ years old on the frame? And just look at all the paint on the panes! I've gotten off all the paint and I've now added my own chippy style back to them. My husband ask me why on earth am I removing all the old chippy paint if I'm only going to put a new chippy look back on them. Maybe I'm the only one that does that, I don't know, but having old paint, lead based paint at that, chipping in my home is not what I would want. Plus I've ran into a couple of spiders and silverfish while cleaning off all the chipped paint from the frames. Don't want those in my home either!

old window frame chippy paint
The top left photo is the new chippy finish that I'm putting on the frame. I really like how it's turning out.
Anyway, I'll photo the finished frames when they are complete and show them to you later.

Here's another project that I'm working on. Isn't she a beauty?! Picked this chair up a GW last week. She has definitely seen better days. Looks like she might have been in someone's paint studio.
Lots of sanding to do on her before I can start painting.

What color should I paint this one? I'm thinking something soothing and a little detail work on the back. Inspiration will hit when I start working on it but first I have to finish the window frames.

Thanks so much for stopping by~I hope you'll visit again soon.

Walk Across Texas Final Update

Well, it's finally over. The last eight weeks have seemed like a marathon of all walks. It's been fun some days and hard others to find the time to walk.
When my daughter and I first started walking for the WAT program, we decided to divide up the 830 miles that it would take to walk across Texas, giving each of us 415 miles to walk in 8 eights. If you know anything about the program, it's normally divided with 8 people/walkers. Being just the two of us, it's been a hard goal to reach on my end. I'm still not even sure how close I made it, even as I am typing up this post, I've not added up all eight weeks yet.

I will continue to do daily walks even though WAT has ended, though I believe 3-5 miles a day will be a nice exercise program to do. Some days it's just plan hard to find the time to do more than that. I've got it down to a fine art of walking 4 miles an hour. That's a pretty fast pace for me.

My total for Nov. 3rd thru Nov. 9th were 58.08 miles!

If this is your first time reading about our Walk Across Texas eight week adventure, you can catch up reading more about it below.

Week 2
Week 3
Week 4
Week 5
Week 6
Week 7

Now for my grand total from the beginning, Sept 15th thru Nov. 9th was 371.75 miles!!

Well, I didn't make my goal of 415 miles, which is a bummer, but I did get fairly close. Sure makes me wish that I'd done more walking earlier in my first couple of weeks. Life gets in the way I suppose, toward the end I was walking 2-3 hours a day most days, which is a lot of time spent trying to reach my goal. It's hard for me to fit in those hours when there's always so much to do. 30/45 minutes a day walking, I can do. I sure hope that others that read this can find the time to put in a little walking/exercise each day. It does make you feel good and it's good for you!!

I hope that you've enjoyed reading about our adventure. My daughter, Molly, has been a real joy to walk with. We've shared some great times and lots of laughter on our walks. She has been my biggest supporter and encourager the entire time with her "Go to attitude". Pop over to read her blog to see how see did when you get a chance. I'm sure she will have her stats up soon, if she doesn't already. She would sure appreciate your visit.

Walk Across Texas week 7 update

Well, seven weeks down with one more to go in the Walk Across Texas program. To say that I'm ready for the end would be an understatement. My daughter and I have been walking a lot these past couple of weeks trying to get as close to our goal as possible. 415 miles each is a lot to do. Will I make my goal? I haven't even added up my totals for several weeks because I know it would be just too daunting to see how many miles I would need to walk to catch up. I will know what my total miles are next week.
Anyway, my grand total for the week of Oct. 27th thru Nov. 2nd were 57.34 miles!!

If you've not been following along, you can catch up reading about it below.

Vessel Bowls for the bath

Lately I've been thinking about changing up our bathroom fixtures, up-grading so to speak. When we built our home 11 years ago, we added the needed items, not so much the wanted items in the baths. Well time has gone by, my children are older and now I would really like to have some style that is pleasing to the eye.
My husband and I have talked it over, he's on board for changing up the bathrooms soon. So, now I'm in the dreaming & planning stages. One thing that I've said all along is when we change out all our Plan-Jane sinks, that I want some vessel bowls. I just love the way they look! There are so many different designs to choose from.

Here are a few that I really like.

I really like the copper vessels a lot but not sure if they're practical for us.
Isn't the one below just the cutest!

The natural stone vessel is one that I believe my hubby would like. What man wouldn't?
It will take me some time to find just the perfect sinks for us. I do know that I don't want the shallow vessels, I can just envision a water mess on the counters every day. I also don't want glass, at least the thin glass for fear of it chipping or breaking.
Do any of you have a vessel bowl? Do you have any pointers about the good, the bad and the ugly that I should know about before deciding on which kind to get?? If you have copper is it hard to maintain the beauty of it? I would love to get your opinions.

Walk Across Texas week 6 update

Can you believe that six weeks has already passed since my daughter and I decided to try to do the Walk Across Texas program on our own to accumulate a total of 830 miles between the two of us? Are you getting tired of the weekly up-dates yet?? Some weeks I wonder if you are but since I started writing about WAT, thought I might as well continue until the end. Only two weeks left! Even if you don't leave a comment, I hope that we are inspiring you at least a little, to do some walking too.

Call me Forrest this week, Forrest Gump that is! Instead of "Run Forrest Run" it's been "Walk Forrest Walk". Seems like most of my week has been walking and walking, really trying to get those miles in before the end of the eighth week. Are you even wondering why I'm not getting any projects done or posted??

My grand total for the week of Oct. 20th thru Oct. 26th were 56.95 miles!  Amazing what you can do when you feel like the pressure is on.

If you want to catch up on what Walk Across Texas is, you can read about it...

Walk Across Texas week 5 update

Where does time go? We've already finished with 5 weeks of regular walking on a daily basis. If you don't think the weeks fly by, just start walking and reporting it to others and you'll realize just how fast time passes by. I always feel as though I'm not doing enough.

This is going to be short and sweet.
My grand total for the week of Oct.13th thru Oct. 19th were 44.26 milesA tiny bit more than last week, but not by much.
Love my little Fitbit Ultra for keeping up with my miles.

DIY Industrial~look Painted Wood Stool

Do you ever have a time when it's hard to be creative? You know that you want to build or paint or sew or craft but your mind just can't get kick started. So you go to town and purchase more items for more projects that's on your ever-growing wish list of things to get done. Then you go to antique shops and browse until you find some item that just has to come home with you that needs a little love and attention. Only to still not be sure of which project you want to tackle first. Please tell me I'm not alone here!
I haven't wanted to do anything real technical lately or too many steps, and frankly I need to clean up my sewing area before I can ever begin to get on projects that require lots of flat space for material to be laid out.
So in the end, I decided to re-do a $3.00 stool that I got at a garage sale a couple of years ago that has just been sitting in the workshop.
Here's what I started with
Huge difference from what I ended up with.
In the end, I love how it turned out. Here's the steps that I did to create my Industrial looking Stool.

Cheese Burger Soup Recipe

Every year when the weather turns the slightest bit cool, my family always asks me to make their favorite soup~Cheese Burger Soup. The other day it happened again. The brisk air in the morning and I already had a couple of my kiddos begging me to make it.

I thought I would share the recipe. Well, it's kind of a recipe. I don't really use one when I'm cooking although when it comes to baking I always follow a recipe to the tee.

Here's what I do, you can change the measurements to suit your family's needs. My family always request that I make a huge batch.

Cheese-Burger Soup

5 lbs ground beef or ground sirloin
1 to 2 onions diced
5-6 carrots diced
1/2-3/4 stick butter
12 cups potatoes (I use my processor to slice the potatoes quickly into thin rounds)
Chicken broth, enough to cover potatoes. I use 8-10 cans. You can also use 1/2 broth and 1/2 water if you want.
2 tsp Fresh Rosemary, chopped
Salt and Pepper to taste
2-3 blocks of Velveeta Cheese cubed
1 can Evaporated Milk
Sour Cream and Green Onions to garnish

First in a skillet brown the beef, drain off any fat if there is any.
Next in a large stock pot, melt butter then add the onions and carrots, salt, pepper and Rosemary and saute for 7 minutes, until the vegges are soft.
Then add the potatoes and cooked ground beef. Next add enough chicken broth to cover the potato/beef mixture.
Bring to a boil long enough to cook potatoes, about 30 minutes.
When the potatoes are soft, turn down the heat and add Velveeta cheese and Evaporated Milk. Stir until melted. You do NOT want this to boil after adding the cheese, it will scorch quickly. Ask me how I know. :0)
Dip into bowls, garnish with Sour Cream and green onions if you have them.

This is a recipe that you can truly play around with. The measurements don't have to be exact, just have the ingredients listed and make to your liking.

Added some scented pine cones to the mix.
 More Pumpkins
All the greenery was purchased at Hobby Lobby

DIY Painted Fall Pumpkins

With Fall here, it's time for me to do a little decorating even though we are still getting 90° temps. I decided that I would start with making over a few little pumpkins that I purchased at Dollar Tree last week. Got to love the price of $1.00

Not being a fan of bright orange pumpkins I wanted to give them a classier look so out came the paint. I'm not an artist by any stretch so I did my usual method of paint and blend with an array of colors until the look that I was envisioning was achieved. Then a clear top coat to make my pumpkins nice and shiny.
What cha think of my Painted Plumpy Pumpkins?
Looking better than the Bright Orange?

Next, I need to decide on an arrangement to go on our dining table. First I need to climb in the attic to get the decor out. I'll share a picture when I get it done.

DIY Stenciled Napkin~Copy Cat Challenge

I'm so excited to share this post with y'all today. I've been a real copy cat on this project. ha,ha,

I had seen Debbie's adorable stenciled napkin some time back and have wanted to make one ever since. A couple of weeks ago Hobby Lobby finally got the same stencil in that she used and I couldn't grab it up quick enough. Well, just a mere two days later, Debbie announced that she would be having a Copy Cat Challenge and I knew exactly what I would enter.

 September 27th
Come by and join all the fun!

I gathered my cloth napkins and my new stencil and got to work.

I love how the napkin turned out.
Actually instead of paint for the stenciling, I used a permanent black cloth pen to do the lettering.

The next two photos are from Debbie's Version
Notice how I had my paint & brush laid out just like Debbie.
Yep, I stopped at nothing to copy her, except I wasn't willing to paint the kitchen table. lol

Below are the two side by side.
Debbie's on the left and mine on the right.

Am I pretty close to Debbie's version??
I do have books, rolling pin, blue bowl and a chicken
and the adorable stenciled napkin.
(sorry no rooster or scale, granite counter or sink , window sill or tomatoes)
You get the picture BUT I do have the Stenciled Napkin.
Hey, that counts~right??

Don't forget to go by Debbie's to see the rest of the Copy Cats at work.

From the Heart,
